IAC Athletes Competing Recently
Inverclyde AC athletes have been competing both at home and abroad in recent months winning both World and National titles together with setting seasons’ bests.
Andy Douglas, who is probably one of Britain's most successful mountain runners, completed a remarkable championship weekend by winning the men’s overall race and the World Masters M35 title when representing GB & NI at the World Masters Mountain Running Championships which were held in the Krkonoše Mountains, Poland over the weekend 26th – 28th June. Andy, who had already won Friday’s Uphill race, once again showed his class on a course that demanded more than pure climbing ability as the Classic Up & Down format brought a different test, but Andy controlled it strongly enough to finish as the fastest man of the day.
Kyle Brotherton, following on from his UK Championships 1500m WC bronze medal in June, travelled to Coventry in August to the British Wheelchair Athletics Association (BWAA) Grand Prix meeting where he competed in several events with his best result being a season’s best of 1.51.17 in the 800m WC. Kyles’ good form continued when he was invited to compete in the 1500m WC event at the prestigious Diamond League event held in Silesia Poland in August, where amongst a truly world class field, Kyle produced another season’s best of 3.40.23 to finish in sixth place, his time being over a second quicker than his UK Championships 1500m WC bronze medal time.
At the Scottish Athletics Half Marathon Championships held in East Lothian on 16 August , two Inverclyde AC athletes brought home Scottish titles. Gregor Yates was 1st M40 in a time of 1.09.36, while Chris Hunter was 1st M50 in a time of 1.18.32, while David Henderson finished 12th M45 in a time of 1.19.53.
