Jonny keeps Commonwealth Games dream alive with fast half-marathon.
Inverclyde Athletics Club’s Jonny Glen has kept his dreams alive of competing at the
Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games with a superb personal best in the half-marathon,
having finished third in the Farnborough Winter Half Marathon.
Jonny, 25, was everpresent at the front of the field alongside fellow Scot Sean Chalmers
from Inverness.
He held strong in the second-half of the race to finish in 64min 23sec, six seconds behind
the winner Andrew Heyes.
Chalmers was a second in front of Jonny, with the pair working together well throughout the
13.1 miles.
Jonny is part of Scottish Athletics’ Marathon Project, which he joined with Chalmers and
fellow Inverclyde AC athlete Adam Craig in January 2021.
Inverclyde athletes Sean Fontana and Craig Ruddy were already part of the initiative during
its 2019 launch.
He is to compete at the Seville Marathon on February 20.
Elsewhere, under-20 Meredith Reid was the first female finisher at the Nigel Barge Memorial
10K.
Meredith continues her strong season by crossing the line in 28th overall with a personal
best of 37:01.
Josh Law was the second men’s under-20 in the race, finishing 11th overall in 34:21.
Close behind was teammate Nicholas Gemmell, who was the top over-45 athlete in the field
in 34:48 for 14th.
